Laboratories:
LAPCOM is the Optical Communications and Microwave Research Laboratory, located in the Eletrical and Computing Engineering College building, at State University of Campinasīs Campus.
The researcherīs team leads innovations based on Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOA), Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifiers (EDFA) and Electromagnetic Waves Propagation, mainly in mobile communications systems.
The LAPCOMīs researchers team is one of the most scientific productive groups in microwave and optical communications community, both at UNICAMP and in whole Brazil.
The LAPCOM-DMO-FEEC-UNICAMP group works on applications of Semiconductor Optical Amplifier (SOA) in optical networks, including fast electro optical (EO) switching, wavelength conversion and pulse regeneration.
We experimentally implemented a new technique to improve the speed of EO switching, named PISIC, with 10 fold reduction in SOA EO switching times, achieving some hundreds of picosenconds. Future improvements include chirp-induced filtering in short band pass (50 GHz) optical filters. In addition, researches on mobile communication and hybrid optical-mobile networks are in course.
Our facilities have instruments on optical switching and wireless communication, with a CDMA cellular transceiver station donated by Motorola. More information on CePOF and our activities in Optical Communications are available at www.ifi.unicamp.br/foton.
Our Laboratory has been established in 1983 in the area of Microwaves and Antennas. In 1985, we begin working in the optical communications field with a large project founded by INEP/FAPESP. Under the leadership of Prof. A. J. Giarola (now retired), more than 20 PhDs and 60 MSc students have been graduated in the last 20 years.
